An egg is an egg… right? Absolutely WRONG! Much depends on the embryonic growth/development to produce a healthy chick. Viability, hatchability, and survival will depend on the availability of nutrients for the plant to grow. Success is only achieved if parental diet/nutrition levels of fat, protein, minerals, etc, are enough to support a complete clutch.

The development and production of pelleted diets have greatly increased the nutritional status of our parrots. I personally couldn’t be happier with the standard and quality of young macaws bred here on a diet of Vetafarm pellets and fresh vegetables ( not all pellets are equal). Superior feathering, growth rate, bone structure and general health. Low-quality seed-based diets are often low in amino acids, lysine, vitamin A, D3 and calcium) and accept varying degrees of metabolic bone disease and embryo and chick losses. We know better, and they deserve better. Make the effort to convert your birds. The difference will amaze you!
